People wait for opportunity to come along, yet it is there every morning.

Quicks, Sixteenth
I once had a phase — in the early part of my college years — when my taste in music manifested in my fashion choices. At the time, I had my head shaved, put a slit on my right eyebrow, and had my left ear pierced. I wore skinny jeans and pointed shoes. Had on tight-fit shirts. In my iPod were the complete discographies of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. — I feel I’m...

Quicks, Fifteenth
I like the smell of rain. It gets you in a mood — to put life on pause, to ponder, reflect, and maybe re-assess plans of action. Just now, open windows permitted the smell of rain into my room, prompting me to get back to this. It’s where I think out loud, and allow (sub)consciousness to just stream.

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once,...

Hello, Kitty
I was walking from our village gate to where my car was parked when I felt my right foot hit something fragile. I looked down; there was a small kitten looking up. I carried on, walking to my car. But there it was, trailing my every step. I stop, the kitten would stop, too. Then it would circle my feet, rubbing its head against my shoes.
I took it in my hands, carried it with me to my car. It was...

A dog does not smile
“[It’s human nature] to ascribe meaning to what is not there. You see what you want to see. You believe what you want to believe, because that’s what your emotions do — they ascribe meaning to what is not there. They fool your perception as to what is real.
“A dog does not smile, no matter how many times your kind thinks it does.”

Turning in right
Stopped by my parents’ room to tell them I’m safely home. Saw my dad talking in his sleep. Woke him up, waking up my mom in the process. Ended up catching up, the three of us, about my day. — I wasn’t particularly happy about how my day had ended, but I guess now I’m turning in with a smile.

Strangers laughing
Sharing laughter with strangers is a wonderful thing. For all our differences, divergent life paths, dissimilar ambitions, and even dreams that clash — here’s a moment, where emotions are unfiltered, and the most basic manifestation of happiness is shared — when we’re reminded that we can bridge the farthest distances by just that, a moment.

Candid decisions
Our candid decisions — those we make on impulse, with little thought — I’ve discovered, are indicative of our values and principles. That’s hardly breaking news. But it’s only now I’ve come by the thought as a genuine realization.

To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time
By Robert Herrick (1591 - 1674) Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying: And this same flower that smiles today To-morrow will be dying. The glorious lamp of Heaven, the sun, The higher he’s a-getting, The sooner will his race be run. And nearer he’s to setting. That age is best which is the first, When youth and blood are warmer; But being spent, the worse, and...
